John Spence Community School is proud the host the ‘Diana Award’ winning multi sports disability club for the community in around North Tyneside and beyond. The Tuesday Club is an informal drop in sporting opportunity for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (age 5 – 18. The site boasts disability amenities and parking, fully qualified staff, sports leaders and a warm, friendly welcome to all parents and carers.
The club is not structured so children can spend as much time as they would like on activities. Activities include: Football, Gymnastics, Trampolining, Archery and a range of other sports.
The club runs every Tuesday during term time, 5.00pm – 6.30pm at John Spence Community High Schools impressive double sized sports hall and surrounding outdoor facilities. The price for each participant is £3 with all proceeds going back into purchasing equipment and opportunities for the members.
We are excited to reopen on Tuesday 13th April 2021 in a safe and secure COVID environment and in line with Step 3 of the Governments guidance. This may be the first time many of our participants will have come to a session with other people since the start of the pandemic and we are both prepared and excited to offer a fun, caring and supportive environment.
Part of the preparation has been the training of 26 local youngsters from a range of North Tyneside schools. Churchill CC (1), Marden High (1), Tynemet QA (2), St Thomas More (10) and John Spence (12) have been the schools who offered their pupils the opportunity and it has been a pleasure training the young people up. Ranging in ages (Year 7 x2, Year 8 x2, Year 9 x5, Year 10 x4, Year 11 x11, 6th Form x2) the young leaders have gelled together to form a motivated, enthusiastic and willing workforce.
The young leaders have completed four sessions looking at key issues such as safeguarding, health and safety, game management and group expectations. Looking professional in their new Nike uniform the team are raring to go and will be complemented by members of John Spence and fully qualified external staff.
We are optimistic that there is light at the end of the tunnel in relation to COVID and with small steps we hope to reenergise the local community to come and join us for a fun filled, action packed time on Tuesday evenings. Future exciting projects with Newcastle United Foundation and other sporting agencies are on the horizon so no better time to get involved.
If you would like to receive more information about the club please email club contact Gail Robson on 07984 481823 or [email protected].
Today we celebrated Red Nose Day by coimng to school dressed in red or in non uniform.

I’m writing to let you know about a new training offer for parents/carers of children and young people with SEND in the local area.
Engagement with parents and carers has told us they want access to a training offer that helps build their knowledge, confidence and skills in SEND. We asked parents/carers to provide some suggestions of topics for training, and using their responses a programme of training has been developed to cover the following:
The training aims to increase parents’ and carers’ knowledge and understanding of these topics, enabling them to meet their child/young person’s needs better, and improve their confidence in ensuring that needs are being met by agencies involved with their child. At the moment, we expect training to be offered on-line though this may change if and when face to face gatherings are possible. Spaces are limited for each course
Booking information for parents – All of the available training can be booked online through our Eventbrite page (link below): https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/send-local-offer-south-tyneside-32567325573
Our school will always prioritise pupils Safeguarding above all else. We will work with all parents and carers to do this but in all cases we will respond with the best interests of your child.
Our policy is available on the school website and we can supply a paper copy on request.
