School Council- Young People’s Parliament

26th February 2019Miss S Padden

As part of our school council, three students were chosen to represent our school at the Young People’s Parliament.  As participants they were asked to take part in a Body Image Campaign, discussing how body image influenced people’s perception of us.  All of our students were able to share their views and were able to give examples of how the media, social media and friends and family influenced their views.

Enterprise Award

25th February 2019Miss S Padden

Keelman’s Way School have recently been awarded the National Standard for commitment to continuing progress and development in enterprise education.

This is all down to the fantastic hard work of our talented pupils and staff. Post 16 in particular have planned, designed and made some fabulous items to sell to raise money for school.

Pupils have used a range of tools and equipment to produce high quality gifts. Items include wooden planters, hand painted ceramic pots, garlands, wooden reindeers, candle holders and jewellery.

To get this award school carried out a full audit to show all enterprise activities in school. A portfolio of evidence was created with examples of what we have created in school, along with an action plan reflecting our ideas for future developments within Keelman’s Way.

Well done to all involved.

Hospital Donation by

11th February 2019Miss S Padden
Martin Newton,  Ramizul Haque, and Harry Crabtree, who created a project and took their idea for providing fun items for South Tyneside Hospital to The Key. The Key works to create a world where young people believe in their own ideas and can take responsibility for living them. The North East charity agreed to give them the money and with the help of our School Council, set about making their project a reality.  Together, choosing and buying everything from toys and baby walkers to craft materials and arranging delivery and collection.
Through this project students have had a lot of fun whilst developing a whole range of skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, time management and communicating with people in authority and of course donating £1,000 worth of toys, equipment and materials which will help to keep young visitors to the children’s A&E department at South Tyneside District Hospital entertained and relaxed.

Christmas Fair

11th December 2018Miss S Padden

Thank you to everyone who visited our Christmas Fair. Another fantastic turn out again this year.

Pupils and staff have worked so hard producing quality gifts and treats for everyone to buy.

Our tombola and raffle stall was as busy as ever and we even had a visit from Bergen the reindeer.

We raised over £2000 which is amazing.

Well done everyone!!

St Oswald’s Visit

23rd November 2018Miss S Padden
We were very excited to ask a local year 6 class, from St Oswald’s C of E primary school in Hebburn, to come in and join us for an afternoon. We started to build community links with this school last year, and are planning this to continue for this academic year.
Our pupils were amazing and welcomed the children into their classes,  from Red 1 all the way up to post 16. St Oswald’s pupils had the opportunity to experience the sensory room, soft play, PE, art, messy play etc and they were all amazing at supporting and interacting with our pupils. They had time at the end of the session to play outside together and we can already see friendships starting to be made.
Well done everyone, we hope to welcome them back next term.
