Last night we were invited to The Key award ceremony at Newcastle Civic Centre. 6 pupils, 3 staff and one parent enjoyed a night of celebrating young peoples achievements from across the North East. We had a lovely meal, danced to music and enjoyed social time together.
Groups of pupils from Keelman’s Way School were nominated for a range of categories, including ‘Key Inspirational Group of 2018’ and ‘Key Community Champions of 2018’. We are so proud of them for all the hard work they have put in this year to help the school and local community.
Toni Waugh, our Blue 2 teacher, won ‘Key Facilitator of 2018’, which is an amazing achievement, as she was selected out of all the Key Facilitators across the North East.
We also had other staff nominated for ‘Key Facilitator of 2018’ and ‘Key Volunteers of 2018’.
Well done everyone

Blue 2 had a lovely morning on Thursday preparing for their parents coming into school that afternoon. Transport is this half terms topic so it was only right that we used this when making our healthy snacks and food. We made two different types of fruit rockets: Strawberry, grape and blueberry and Strawberry, banana and mango. Parents enjoyed their healthy treats and also took part in some healthy activities with children.
Blue 1 invited parents in today for our healthy schools event.
The pupils prepared a healthy afternoon tea and then they were able to enjoy the bikes with their parents, as well as having an opportunity to look through work from this year.
Some pupils from across the school visited the Gurdwara in South Shields, to explore the Sikhism religion. To show respect we removed our shoes and washed our hands before entering the Gurdwara.
We met Kirpan, who showed us different rooms and discussed with us the Sikh uniform, the 5K’s and how they believe 1 God. We also listened whilst he read from the Guru Granth Sahib and showed us the room that this was kept in. We all sat on the floor to show no one is better or worse than anyone else and then enjoyed a snack together.

Rajeev from Bhangracise came into school to work with all pupils and show them some Indian dance, drumming and singing. Pupils found it really fun and enjoyed participating in the activities.

A group of Key stage 3 pupils attended a sci fi event at The Word in South Shields yesterday. We had lots of fun designing our own monsters, using the green screen room and creating fun images with this. We also had the opportunity to meet Neil Bushnell, a sci fi illustrator who showed us how to create our own characters and allowed us to see some of his work. We even had time for a tour of the monster exhibition.
Well done Blue 1 and 2.

A group of pupils form Key stage 3 have been organising trips they would like to go on via The Key Fund. This was the last trip of this half term, and pupils wanted to go bowling and then to Frankie and Bennys. We all went to Washington and had a great time. All pupils loved the bowling and really enjoyed their lunch.
As part of the Healthy School event, Orange 1 invited parents into school to join in with sports activities. They joined in with wake up shake up in class, outside activities included balls, bikes, bubble chasing and parachute games. We finished with healthy fruit snacks.

Some pupils in school have entered a Primary Engineers competition…
The pupils were set the question, ‘If I was an engineer I would…’ and then could come up with any invention they would do. They then had to explain why their design should be chosen by an engineer to create.
We entered 9 primary children and 2 got merits for their ideas and 7 were given distinctions. There were 13 secondary pupils entered and they all received distinctions.
The 20 pupil will now have their work displayed at the Discovery Museum on Friday 25th May with other children from around the area. The work will then be judged again to identify overall regional winners.
To mark the one year anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing pupil’s came dressed to school wearing pink and blue clothing.
Pupils were asked to bring in a £1 donation and cupcakes were also on sale made by Lee’s the Bakers.
We raised over £100 today.
This money will go straight to the ‘Together Forever Trust’ which was set up in memory of Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry from South Shields who sadly lost their lives a year ago today.
